Fort McMurray is a population center located in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo northeast Alberta, Canada, in the middle of the Athabasca oil sands and surrounded by Taiga (Boreal Forest). The area saw devastating wildfire burnings during the month of May in 2016. This wasn’t it’s first major disaster, however.
